Summary/Objective:

  • The CDL Driver will possess the required DOT certifications and/or license to operate SMA vehicles. The primary objective will be to deliver and pick up equipment to and from jobsites.  The driver will work with the Operations Manager to make sure that all logistics, inventory and job planning are considered in the management of company equipment in transit. If no pickups or deliveries are needed the driver is expected to assist in other duties as needed. The driver must possess the knowledge to perform all job duties within the confines of the law.

CDL Driver:

  • Maintain a CDL in good standing and observe all laws and regulations associated with operating a CDL rated truck
  • Comply with all federal and state laws as they apply to vehicle operation
  • Use the Motive system for oversight of vehicle operation and safety
  • Participate in loading and strapping/securing the load to ensure safe transport
  • Ensure that the truck is in good repair and ready to make the trip prior to leaving
  • Maintain clean and safe trucks
  • Reporting vehicle / equipment issues as soon as they are discovered
  • Communicating potential delays to supervisor and customer
  • Making deliveries and pickups safely and timely
  • Complying with all DOT, Federal and state regulations regarding documentation of work and rest breaks
  • Maintaining good records of deliveries and pickups for the company
  • Use and maintain the proper PPE (personal protective equipment)
  • Use forklift, dollies, carts, helpers, etc. to assist in lifting equipment where possible

Additional responsibilities

  • Maintaining a valid CDL license and all required credentials, physical evaluations and certifications
  • May have to move, restack, or band equipment on site prior to loading on the truck
  • If no pickups or deliveries are needed, the driver is expected to assist in other duties as needed.

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 135 pounds. While lifting the employee is expected to use proper lifting techniques and utilize devices and machinery such as forklifts, dollies, and carts to assist where possible. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, first shift, 40 hours per week and may require longer hours and weekend work depending on the workload.

Travel

  • Occasionally overnight travel may be required.

Education and Experience

  • Must have held a valid driver’s license for at least three years.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have a clean and acceptable driving record (MVR).

Required Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of an organization.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English required.

Required Math Skills

  • General business arithmetic skills are required such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, computation of percentages and discounts.

 Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables or situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

  • Knowledge of electronic equipment used in monitoring travel and operating over the road trucks.
